As the club nears its Centenary Year, more golfers are discovering James Braid’s untouched masterpiece as the perfect stay-and-play break
Perranporth Golf Club, regarded as Cornwall’s most ‘Raw & Natural Links’, is preparing to welcome a record number of visitors in the lead-up to its Centenary celebrations in 2027 as growing numbers of golfers continue to discover one of James Braid’s most authentic and enduring courses situated on Cornwall’s dramatic north coast.
Much-loved by its full membership, Perranporth boasts rare natural qualities with its stunning and authentic test of golf capturing the essence of true links – not to mention a reputation for being one of the most fun courses to experience – which is attracting visitors from far and wide.

Nathan Gilpin, General Manager at Perranporth Golf Club, says: “Only now is the course getting the recognition it truly deserves.
“There is an element of fun whenever you play Perranporth and with more and more people taking up the game in recent years, and with perhaps a different outlook on playing golf, the links here really does serve up one of the most enjoyable tests in the UK.
“The feedback we get from those who have just played the course for the first time is that it is engaging right from the get-go, and that the layout is fair and, above all, extremely fun. Golfers love the fact that this incredible links course has remained relatively untouched for nearly 100 years, which is very unusual and something that we are very proud of.
“There have been nuanced changes and tweaks over the years, but the blueprints we have from 1927 are pretty much what we see now. We are a true natural links; one that demands to be played and which serves up the characteristics that have become the hallmark of Cornish golf.”
Once described by prominent course architect, J. Hamilton Stutt, as a “rare and priceless heritage”, Perranporth is situated approximately eight miles southwest of Newquay. Its stunning clifftop location boasts expansive views up and down the coastline looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.
Golfers are able to enjoy accommodation on site – six and fourth-berth options – with the club’s affordable self-catering lodges and caravans providing a peaceful base from which to go out and play, as well as explore the surrounding area that is brimming with history and heritage.
Gilpin adds: “It is not just the unique course that makes Perranporth so special; we welcome lots of visitors from both the UK and overseas, and we have a great team to look after them. As we gear up for a very special year in 2027, we look forward to hosting more new faces and treating them to the full Perranporth experience.”
Stuart Gillett of Legacy Golf Advisors, who have been working with the club since 2023, says: “The evolution at Perranporth has been staggering and this is down to the quality of the golf course and the improved experience offered by the team. In other parts of the UK there is no doubt a significantly higher green fee would be in place. It represents fabulous value for money.”
The A30, which runs from Land’s End all the way through to west London, is just five miles from Perranporth, with Newquay Airport 30 minutes away, Bristol Airport three hours, and London Heathrow closer to five.
Gillett adds: “People are starting to realise how accessible Perranporth is. There are also a number of courses in this region that are of a very high pedigree and add to the allure of a visit here. With so many tourist attractions nearby, not to mention the pristine beaches and stunning scenery, it really is a wonderful part of the world.
“As well as the golf and recreational offerings for all the family, accommodation away from the self-catering onsite will suit all budgets, while the local restaurants and bistros serve up a vibrant culinary scene using locally-sourced ingredients.
“Perranporth is a town that really embraces its identity, and the golf club has a similar feel to it. It has been a joy to witness the team celebrate this fact as they go about setting the club up for the next hundred years.”
